Role of the Consultant
A consultant has specific responsibilities to their client that must be fulfilled. It is imperative to maintain a high level of service and commitment to you and your employees to ensure that you receive the highest quality benefits at a competitive and fair cost.

The accountability of the consultant to the in-force plan includes:

  • Ensure that claims are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that billings are handled correctly and understood by the employers.
  • Arbitrate any claims disputes.
  • Answer questions from client and employees as they arise.
  • Keep client abreast of changes in legislation or insurer policies that may affect the cost of the plan.
  • Explain cost-containment initiatives.
  • Provide accurate costing as required concerning plan changes.
  • Prepare a pre-renewal report 2-3 months prior to the renewal report in order to assess the groups’ experience.
  • Review the renewal for extraordinary or non-recurring claims.
  • Breakdown of historical premium and claims information and costs by type of benefits within the Health and Dental claims and provide benchmarking.
  • Explain to client the various renewal methodologies and funding methods available and differences amongst various Insurers.
  • Assess pooled benefits adjustment based on changes in the group’s demographics (age, male/female ratio, job risk) using an in house system that is run against the client’s employee list.
  • Assess current rates of pooled benefits and their competitiveness.
  • Annual assessment of inflation/trend by benefit and insurer expenses and costs.
  • Provide independent renewal analysis and review.
  • Negotiate renewal rates with Insurer.
  • The ability to conduct a market survey on behalf of the client to test the competitiveness of the current benefit plans. This is usually done every three to five years.
  • Preparations of employee notices and provide assistance in employee meetings.
  • As your consultant we will provide an unbiased review based on our reputations and contacts with the entire Insurance industry. This ensures a fair review in the marketplace. At that time we will review what each company’s request is, their product, specific changes from the current plan (including upgrades and cost containment), the premium requested and the financial viability of the quotation as well as service.
  • Review new benefits, products and changes in the marketplace.
